We have likely met to make sure we are a good fit as we will spend a lot time together on your wedding day. But an Engagement session will give you an idea of how I work and how we work together. You will start to know my style of directing and I can learn all your best most flattering angles.

You Get comfortable together

Of course you are comfortable together as a couple, but how often do you have a camera trained on you aside from date night selfies? Engagement sessions are a great practice run for your wedding portraits. So by the time the big day arrives, you will already be used to posing and kissing in front of a camera.

We will have an opportunity to hang out and create stunning portraits that reflect you two without the pressure of the timeline of your wedding day. I had a blast spending an hour with this gorgeous family, capturing their love for each other.

Fun fact: This little 6 month old just recently discovered her tongue and loved showing us her newly learned skills throughout this session. Playing peekaboo and asking big sister to tell her favourite jokes helped my clients be themselves and let me capture all those smiles and laugher.

I have made it my mission to blog more of my 2017 sessions and I am so excited to share this little girls newborn and family photos on my blog.

I always feel so honoured when Clients choose me to create memories with them to treasure forever. I have read articles about why Family Photography is so important and I have to agree.

When you ask people what possessions they would rescue from their burning house, one of the most frequent answers is "our family photo album " or "a computer with digital images" rather than valuable jewelry.

We preserve important events and people in our lives through photographs of special events like weddings, births, birthdays, holidays or every day life because they matter. Photographs are chronicles of our personal stories frozen in time.

Memories are powerful. Memories tie us to people, places, and emotions. Preserving these memories for the days when we may not remember, can't remember, or might just need reminded of. There is nothing like looking through family albums to find sweetness in life trials. Pictures can manifest emotions that words cannot.

Kids of all ages love looking through family albums and see photos from our past and current events, they become connected to their own story. Children are there on the the day they were born, but they won't remember those first sweet moments.

Photos let them see those tender first moments when they became part of their family and how much they were loved right from the beginning. :)

Twins girls newborn session

These two adorable twin sisters came in to Iris Chalmers Photography's studio in Sylvan Lake for their newborn session with mom, dad and their big sister, earlier this year. What an adventure and so much fun. The girls loved being being close together in the posing pod chair best.

Meet little Ava all pretty in pink.

She was such a curious little one during her newborn session with Iris Chalmers Photography in our Sylvan Lake Studio. Ava was perfectly content looking around the studio until she fell a sleep for a nap on our bean bag. Isn't she just the cutest :)

One of my 2017 new years resolutions was to start blogging more of my work and with xmas fast approaching I have a lot of catching up to do :) ....

This was a newborn session I captured over a year ago in my clients home, yes Iris Chalmers Photography will do home visits to capture your little Loves if you prefer a session in your home over travel to our Sylvan Lake Studio.

Baby Sebastian's newborn photo session

Little baby Sebastian had his first professional photo session with Iris Chalmers Photography this spring at only 10 days old. It truly was a pleasure capturing all his cute expressions. He was already very alert for a newborn and loved being talked to :) His mom brought a special stuffy and bib to the studio to customize his newborn session. I love it when clients bring something meaningful to them to customize their newborn session. Newborn sessions can be pre booked as early as your second trimester to save your spot for your due date month.

Shannon & Jordan's Engagement Session

I had the pleasure of hanging out with these two Sweethearts and their cute little dog Dexter to capture their engagement photos at 3 Mile Bend in Red Deer, Alberta. It was a nice sunny spring evening.....we hiked around the trails, talked and laughed until the sun started to set.

I am very honoured that Shannon and Jordan choose me as their Wedding photographer and looking forward to capture their upcoming 2018 wedding.

Spring has sprung and graduation time is almost upon us again!!

Graduation is an exiting time. It's both an ending and a beginning: it's warm memories of the past and big dreams for the future....

We only had 10 minutes to capture Her in her gorgeous Dress on Graduation day before She had to rush of to the ceremonies ...

So we booked a sunset beach session in Sylvan Lake Provincial Park at a later date and it turned out dreamy for this gorgeous sweetheart :)

Newborn Posing Safety

Hello,

My name is Iris Chalmers. I am the Owner and Photographer at Iris Chalmers Photography. I have always been a very private person in regards to social media but decided to share a bit more of myself and my work to promote my business. One of my New Years resolutions for 2017 was starting to blog.

So here we go :) By the way, I love my Job! Especially when I have the privilege to work with newborn clients!

Today I am sharing a little behind the scene of newborn posing ... specifically the "baby in bucket" pose.

Have you ever wondered what kind of magic Photographers use to get Newborns to hold their heads up so perfectly in those sleepy baby poses?

It is called Photoshop.

Baby safety always comes first when posing a newborn in any props!! Baby is only 5-14 days old in most newborn sessions, so naturally their tiny heads always need to be supported properly at all times. The bucket is stuffed with filling to support your precious new love and any props used need to be weight down properly to prevent tipping over.

For the "baby in bucket" pose 2 images are being combined in photoshop to edit out arm and hand of the person supporting baby's head to make it appear baby is holding its head on its own. Please do not attempt to pose your newborn baby like this without proper training.
